When the "Lady Juliana" set sail in 1789, she was the first ship to carry female convicts to Australia. During her passage she acquired a reputation as a 'Floating brothel' regarding the exploits of its female convict cargo.
The design was developed before the writer had started to flesh out his script, which provided a lot of creative freedom. The client wanted a design which was exciting and could be used to climb on and would be imposing in the venues it would go to.
The stage rakes in 3 directions echoing the undulation of the sea, it also reflects life below deck and in prisons of the time, such as Newgate gaol
It was performed in the following venues: Garrick Theatre, Lichfield; TheatreWorkshop, Edinburgh
